Thanks for visiting my site.
NEWS! ColdFusion Developer no long available for hire. I just recently started working for Examiner.com Thanks to Laura at TEK Systems for getting me in.
The job is downtown and I'm really enjoying the work.
This web site is still vintage 2001. I need to bring it up to date - I'll admit
that. I guess I should have a blog here or something a bit more dynamic. Well,
sorry - I'm a web developer, not much of a creative writer. Perhaps one day
I'll put a blog here and tell you all about my exciting life (sarcasm) but for
now, it is just a plain old static page.
Soon I will be adding links here to a couple of applications I am working on.
One is a customizable start page for my cell phone. Up until recently I used the mobile version of the iGoogle page on my Treo 700W phone. For whatever reason, after I updated the firmware on my phone, I could no longer get the iGoogle page on my mobile phone to represent my desktop start page. This is frustrating because I liked having the same content (including my Google bookmarks) in both places. So, since Google is no longer giving me what I want, I will do it myself.
Basically, I plan on making the start page out of RSS feeds. I also plan on having a bookmarking feature that will let me easily access links to favorite sites on my phone as well as via RSS feed in my desktop browser. Unlike the Google bookmarks on my mobile phone, my application will allow me to add bookmarks from the phone by sending the link to a special email address.
The mobile IE browser makes this easy with a menu tool to send a page link. While it's true that you can sync your mobile bookmarks with your computer through activesync, they are only available on that desktop in IE. My application will allow me to access those bookmarks on any browser that I use.
I will also be putting a demo version of an application that I created which allows me to use my cell phone's web browser to control the music that plays in my home. Some of the features of this application is the ability to start playing any of my CDs, or to search and play music from the Rhapsody music service. This application came about because I have remote speakers throughout my home that are connected to my server. I wanted to be able to change the music remotely while upstairs, and the web browser on my cell phone seemed like a natural way to do so.
A little about the look of this site:
One day while laid off in 2001, I scouted around my house taking pictures
of objects at extreme close-ups and odd angles. I wanted to create something
a bit unique and abstract that would add interest to the background of some
otherwise simple pages.
What you see on these pages are all images taken with my first digital camera
- a Canon S10. It was a nice camera for its time. Most of the images were usable
as-is with just simple cropping or rotation.
The image at the top of this page is a close-up looking into a neon sign that
hangs in my basement stairway. You can see a mirrored/rotated version of the
sign on the LINKS
page. The picture on my ABOUT
page is pretty self explanatory. Just a close-up of my computer monitor browsing
to the HTML version of my resumé. It turned out to be a nice coincidence
that the color of the monitor is similar to the neon on the start page. I used
this color scheme throughout the site for text colors. The photo on the IMAGES
page was made by taking a flash picture of the surface of an old DEVO laserdisc.
The flash made an interesting color streak across the camera reflection. This
streak worked well as the menu background. The camera reflection also took on
the blue color of the other pages - again by happy coincidence.
When not taking pictures for my web site, I have also been known to take scenery
photos as well. Since this page was first created, I have upgraded to a Canon
EOS Digital Rebel XT. I should probably re-do the photos on the site with the
new camera. You'll find links to my photography on the IMAGES
page.
Thanks for stopping by.
